2-Why use 5+12AS+5mm thermal IGU for residential project?
Thermal Insulation
The thermal conductivity of glass is 0.688, while the thermal conductivity of air is 0.027, making the thermal conductivity of glass 27 times higher than that of air. The air gap between double glazing can take advantage of the low thermal conductivity of air to reduce overall thermal transfer.
Insulating glazed glass made with transparent glass has a U-value that is only half of that of single-pane glass. With the addition of a high-performance low-emissivity coating, the U-value can be further reduced by 0.6 W.
Sound Insulation
Insulated glass can reduce noise by 27-50 dBs, lowering outdoor traffic noise from 80 dBs to only 50 dBs indoors. When combined with laminated glass, the soundproofing performance of insulated glass can be maximized.
No Condensation
Condensation refers to the phenomenon of dew formation caused by the temperature difference between indoor and outdoor environments.
Because the inner layer of glass in contact with indoor air is affected by the air gap, it will not form condensation on the surface due to temperature differences, even if the outer layer is less affected. The dew point of insulated glass can reach -40°C, and if filled with argon gas, the dew point can drop to -80°C.
Lightweight
- Although the air spacer in thermal insulating glass unit increases its thickness, the total weight of the insulated glass is almost the same as the weight of regular glass.
- The weight of 5-12AS-5 insulated glass is 25 kg/m², significantly reducing the overall weight of the building while providing excellent thermal and sound insulation. For skyscrapers that are hundreds of meters tall, this ensures the safety of the building.
Long Service Time
Thermal insulated glass unit (IGU) using structural silicone sealant have a warranty period of 10-15 years. In practice, the lifespan of IGUs can reach 20-50 years.
